President & CEO Message

Welcome to Catholic Health Services.

Catholic Health Services (CHS) is the largest faith-based health care system on Long Island, encompassing some of the region’s finest health and human services agencies. With six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, a home nursing service, hospice, a community-based agency for persons with special needs and a regional lab, CHS offers a wide range of services backed by quality care and delivered by dedicated, compassionate professionals. All 6 of our hospitals have earned a place in the top 12% of U.S. hospitals using electronic medical records, as recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Our hospitals and continuing care programs have garnered other accolades from numerous outside agencies.

St. Francis is top-ranked on Long Island by U.S. News & World Report and has been identified as one of the Best Hospitals in the country for 10 consecutive years. Ranked 16th for cardiology and heart surgery nationwide, St. Francis is also rated among the top 50 in the nation for 2 other adult specialties: gastroenterology & GI surgery and geriatrics (2016–2017). Good Samaritan has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for 12 consecutive years, and Mercy was again awarded the Pathway to Excellence® designation in 2016.

All six CHS hospitals have earned NYS Stroke Center designation, as well as American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) recognition. St. Charles holds a place on the AHA’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll and earned the GWTG Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the sixth consecutive year in 2016. St. Catherine of Siena received the AHA’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite recognition, and Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus honors were awarded to St. Joseph. Every CHS hospital is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, with the Gold Seal of Approval®. Maryhaven Center of Hope and St. Charles Hospital are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities. CHS nursing homes have been awarded five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for quality measures, and Our Lady of Consolation was named one of the Best Nursing Homes in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (2016–2017).

All of these awards reflect the system's mission, which serves as the foundation for all we do:

Catholic Health Services, as a ministry of the Catholic Church, continues Christ's healing mission, promotes excellence in care and commits itself to those in need.

It is this mission that informs and enriches our approach to patient care. Our patients know they will be treated respectfully and given the finest care using the latest technology. That is the CHS difference.
