Volunteering at CHS

Bill Margiotta has volunteered at Our Lady of Consolation since 2005. Serving as a spiritual care companion, he began reaching out to a resident who was withdrawn and faithfully visited him weekly. Eventually, the resident disclosed that his daughter was among the victims of 9/11. Mr. Margiotta shared that he too had experienced the loss of his daughter, who was about the same age as the resident's at the time of her death. Subsequently, the two men would spend time in prayer together on their children's anniversaries. Their close spiritual relationship lasted until the resident passed.

Mr. Margiotta is 1 of more than 3,000 trained volunteers who support the many services offered by CHS facilities. Their contributions help to sustain the important work of CHS’s caregivers across Long Island. The auxiliary organizations organize fund raisers, staff information desks, provide clerical support, direct visitors and so much more. Many of our seasoned volunteers have made lifelong friendships through these activities. Junior volunteers earn credit and learn professional skills, while performing invaluable services in many areas of operation. Whether you live in Nassau or Suffolk County, there’s a volunteer program at a CHS facility near you.
