Back Pain Prevention
Not all cases of lower back pain are preventable. However, there are steps you can take to minimize your chances of suffering from low back pain.

Exercise: Aerobic conditioning and strengthening exercises, particularly core strengthening, keep you fit and may help you avoid episodes of low back pain.
Safe lifting: Learning how to properly lift objects can help you prevent injury.
Proper sitting and standing: Correct posture helps with proper alignment.
Weight management: Maintaining a proper weigh helps avoid unnecessary strain on your back.
Avoid or quit smoking: Smoking is known to increase the risk of osteoporosis and to interfere with proper blood circulation.
Proper nutrition: Calcium and vitamin D may help prevent osteoporosis and compression fractures.

For those who do suffer from low back pain, the CHS Neuroscience team can evaluate your condition and tailor an individual treatment plan to your specific diagnosis.

Stroke Risk Reduction and Prevention
According to the National Stroke Association, up to 80% of all strokes can be prevented. The best ways to prevent a stroke are to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to manage any risk factors you may have.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle includes:
• getting regular exercise
• eating a healthy diet
• maintaining a healthy weight
• avoiding smoking

Risk factors that are medical conditions should be managed with your doctor. Doing so can greatly decrease your risk of stroke:
• high blood pressure
• high cholesterol
• diabetes
• obesity
• heart disease
• artery disease

Other risk factors that are uncontrollable are:
• increasing age
• gender
• family history
• race/ethnicity
• prior stroke
• prior heart attack
