Catholic Health’s St. Charles Hospital (Port Jefferson, NY) announces its latest technological procurement to provide patients with less discomfort during electroencephalogram (EEG) tests. A first on Long Island, the new technology also is designed to reduce preparation time for these procedures from over thirty minutes to five minutes.

EEG is the standard of care test for assessing the electrical activity of the brain and guiding care for neurological patients. This test is essential for the proper diagnosis and treatment of people with or at high risk for seizures, which may be life-threatening if not treated. Using this latest technology, known as the Zeto EEG system, patients arriving at the hospital with seizures or those who are inpatient, can be quickly prepared for an EEG in a more timely fashion.

“We are delighted to employ cutting-edge technologies that prioritize patient comfort and satisfaction,” said St. Charles Hospital President Jim O’Connor. “The implementation of this new system is just one example of our broader commitment to continually accelerating and improving diagnostic processes for patients, physicians, and staff.”

David Anschel, MD, St. Charles Hospital Director of Clinical Neurophysiology said, “This new technology will be especially helpful to some of our most acutely ill neurological patients in the intensive care and emergency units. We prioritize patient care and comfort at every touchpoint.”
