Mercy Medical Center and St. Charles Hospital have been ranked as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S. They are among just 45 hospitals in New York state to earn such designation out of more than 3,000 U.S. hospitals evaluated. The ratings are based on an aggregation from the accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

Rockville Centre, NY – Paul J. Rowland, FACHE, has been named chief administrative officer (CAO) for St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS). Most recently senior vice president for strategic planning at Sound Shore Health System in New Rochelle, Rowland succeeds Dennis Verzi, who is now CHS’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). “Paul brings extensive administrative health care experience to this role,” said Verzi, who is responsible for oversight of CHS’s six hospitals. “I am pleased to welcome him to CHS.”

Rockville Centre, NY – Jason M. Golbin, DO, MS, FCCP, FACP, has been named the new chief medical officer (CMO) for St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS). Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine and sleep medicine, Golbin was most recently associate director of critical care medicine at CHS’s Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. He succeeds Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, FACEP, who is now CMO for all of CHS.

In the newly created role for the system, Friedman will work closely with the Chief Administrative Officers and development executives of CHS’s six hospitals to further develop and enhance fundraising efforts. She will report to CHS’s President and Chief Executive Officer Alan D. Guerci, MD.

Rockville Centre, NY – Catholic Health Services (CHS) has appointed Gara Edelstein, RN, MSN,its chief nursing officer (CNO), as well as chief operating officer (COO) for St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. In the newly created role of CNO for the system, Edelstein will work closely with the chief nursing executives of CHS’s six hospitals to further develop patient care strategies. In partnership with CHS’s Chief Medical Officer Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO, she will also coordinate quality and patient safety initiatives. As COO for St. Catherine, Edelstein will oversee all nursing and clinical services and ancillary support services for the facilty.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, FACEP, CHCQM, has been appointed senior vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer (CMO) for Catholic Health Services (CHS). Beginning in 2006, Dr. O’Shaughnessy served as assistant director of emergency medicine for St. Charles. Later, he became director of emergency medicine for St. Catherine of Siena, eventually being promoted to CMO for the Smithtown hospital.
