Have a picnic

Take a cue from Yogi Bear and pack up your picnic basket. Spring’s milder weather is ideal for eating outdoors and Nassau County’s parks are the perfect location for an alfresco meal. You can make a reservation at your favorite park to secure your favorite spot. You’ll get lots of fresh air, a little bit of exercise and a good meal all at the same time.

Take a seal walk

Join the Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island (CRESLI) on a seal walk at Cupsogue Beach. Bring a camera or binoculars for a better view to get the most out of this unique activity. Secure your spot to observe, photograph and learn about Long Island’s seals.

Get out the dog’s leash

Enjoy a guided on-leash walk with your dog on one of the LI-DOG Pack Walks™ scheduled every third weekend of the month from spring through fall. Walks take place at various parks and beaches throughout Long Island. Maybe a guided walk doesn't suit your schedule. In that case, you and your canine companion can get in some exercise at one of the area’s dog-friendly parks and preserves.

Seek refuge

Visit one of Long Island’s national wildlife refuges to interact with nature. A wide range of recreational and educational programs lets you observe and interact with plants and wildlife in their natural setting. With multiple locations and thousands of acres of upland forest, beaches, marshes and fields, there's sure to be something that makes you want to go outside and get active.

Visit the animals

Schedule a tour or plan to spend the day at one of the area’s zoos, wildlife preserves or aquariums. Whether you want to learn about wildlife, feed a llama or tour a butterfly house, there’s sure to be an activity you enjoy. Or get a little more hands-on at a petting zoo or animal farm now that the weather’s turning warmer.

Take a hike

Go on a leisurely stroll down the shoreline. Or pick up your pace and sign up for one of the many organized races and marathons scheduled throughout Long Island this spring. Take advantage of spring’s milder temperature and sunshine with one of the many walks, hikes, races and events taking place from March through May.
