Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Specializing in Surgery of the Hand & Upper Extremity: Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand. Dr. David Tuckman received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1998. He completed an internship in general surgery in 1999, and he completed a four-year residency in orthopaedic surgery in 2003, both at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Tuckman was then dual-fellowship trained at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. One fellowship was in sports medicine/arthroscopy, and one was in surgery of the hand and upper extremity. Dr. Tuckman began working in private practice in 2005, and he joined Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset in 2007. He specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremity, as well as in sports medicine and arthroscopy. Dr. Tuckman has special interests in sports-related injuries as well as traumatic injuries of the upper extremity, including fracture, tendon and nerve laceration, post-traumatic reconstruction, and arthritis and nerve-related conditions of the hand and upper extremity. Dr. Tuckman has lectured internationally and published extensively on a broad range of topics relating to sports medicine, hand, elbow, and shoulder surgery. He is dedicated to teaching, is integrally involved in training residents in the North Shore University Hospital-Long Island Jewish Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In addition, he is a Lifetime Member of IBRA (International Bone Research Association). Dr. Tuckman has received numerous awards including the North Shore University Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine Consultant of the Year Award, the Long Island Jewish Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Teacher of the Year Award, and the North Shore-LIJ Health System Outstanding Teacher Award twice. Dr. Tuckman is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and he has an additional Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in surgery of the hand. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of the American Medical Association, the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Tuckman has been selected annually, since 2012, as both a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in hand surgery and a Newsday Top Doctor in hand surgery. He also has the distinction of being a US News & World Report Top Doctor. Dr. Tuckman has been selected as a Superdoctor since 2014 and has been featured in the New York Times. In addition, Dr. Tuckman was included in New York Magazine's Best Doctors - 2016, 2018 and 2019 editions.
