Comprehensive Training for Radiology Technologists

Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital School of Radiography is a two-year program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and by the New York State Department of Health. The educational program is 24 months in duration and requires full-time attendance.

Our Program

Graduates of our program are awarded a certificate from Mercy Hospital. They are then eligible to take the national certification exam from the American Registry of Radiology Technologists. Passing the exam also certifies the graduate to become a licensed radiologic technologist in New York State.

The course of study consists of two components:

  • Formal classroom program
  • Clinical application of radiologic procedures

Clinical rotation takes place during the two-year program at:

  • Mercy Hospital (Rockville Centre, NY)
  • Good Samaritan Hospital (West Islip, NY)
  • St. Catherine of Siena Hospital (Smithtown, NY)
  • St. Charles Hospital (Port Jefferson, NY)

Application Process

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) required by law
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree–conferred on or before July 1, 2021
  • Satisfactory score on entrance exam (70 or higher)
  • Ability to meet technical requirements listed below
  • Good health as determined by your personal physician
  • Passing a drug screening examination
  • Clinical observation time and written essay after the observation
  • Interview

Please note that meeting the above minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

Applicants must:

  • Communicate clearly to patients and staff
  • Move immobile patients from a stretcher to the X-ray table with assistance from department personnel
  • Push a wheelchair from the patient's waiting area to the x-ray room
  • Reach up to six feet off the floor
  • Lift 25 pounds of weight
  • Visually monitor patients in the X-ray room from the control booth
  • Audibly monitor patients and equipment

Who We Are
The Hospital School of Radiography Alumni Association provides alumni with valuable networking opportunities designed to promote contacts and good fellowship.

What We Do

  • Award an annual alumni scholarship to a junior student entering their senior year during the graduation ceremony
  • Form networking opportunity for our members
  • Arrange social gatherings for alumni members
  • Provide job placement assistance for graduates
  • Annual Magovern Lecture for all alumni

Membership
Membership in The Mercy Hospital School of Radiography Alumni Association is open to all graduates and those who have an interest in supporting the school. The association encourages all members to pursue educational opportunities wherever they exist and energetically promotes active involvement in lifelong learning.
