Catholic Heath Partners With Local Governments to Provide COVID-19 Vaccines

Catholic Health recently administered COVID-19 vaccines to eligible Nassau County seniors as part of an effort by local governmental agencies to protect underserved populations from the virus.

Partnering with the New York State Department of Health and the Town of North Hempstead, Catholic Health medical professionals served as vaccinators at two pop-up centers: at Clifton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park on February 27 and February 28 and Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence on March 1.

“Making sure there is equity in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is vital,” said Catholic Health’s Assistant Vice President for Practice Management and Network Strategy Alicia DiLavore, MBA, BSN, RN, CENP. “We are pleased to work with officials from the state and the town to reach segments of the population in communities we serve that otherwise may be challenged to locate a vaccination site and obtain an appointment.”

At the two sites, health care professionals from Catholic Health safely administered the vaccines. They also made sure individuals who received the vaccine followed proper protocols that included waiting up to 20 minutes after his or her shot to ensure there were no side effects.

Community outreach is embedded in the mission of Catholic Health. In addition to the primary care and human services offered by Catholic Health entities across Long Island, blood drives, free wellness seminars, support groups and other community health-related events and programs such as Health Sundays are offered year-round.
