For the past five years, Laura Raffa, RN, has worked at Catholic Health Services’s (CHS) Good Samaritan Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center in Sayville. Her co-workers and supervisors say Laura is an example of ‘all-in’ dedication.

“Good Samaritan Nursing & Rehab has a really nice family atmosphere,” she says. “It’s smaller than most, only 100 beds, and many of our residents are long-term, which means the staff here really gets to know them and their families. It’s not just about performing our nursing duties; we have conversations with the residents daily, just to keep everyone’s emotional equilibrium in balance. And, I always make sure family members aware of any change in condition. We want them to know their loved ones are in good hands.”

When Laura isn’t caring for patients and long-term residents at Good Samaritan Nursing & Rehabilitation, she coordinates employee screenings for coronavirus to ensure the premises remain free of contagion. So far she’s performed or coordinated more than 1,400 swabs to maintain our high level of safety.

“Laura truly embodies our CHS values,” says Frank Misiano, chief administration officer for  Good Samaritan Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center. “What makes her an exceptional nurse is what makes her an exceptional person. She truly cares.”
