Free Seminar on Bereavement and Coping With the Holidays
WEST ISLIP, NY - Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, in conjunction with Good Shepherd Hospice, will host a seminar on strategies to cope with the loss of a loved one at Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays. Good Shepherd Hospice staff will present the program, with Bereavement Coordinator Clarice Curry, LCSW, offering tips, advice and coping mechanisms such as:
- Be gentle, compassionate and accepting of yourself. It’s normal to feel out of sorts with the cheerful tone of the season. Holidays can magnify feelings of loss of a loved one.
- Self care is necessary for those who are grieving. Remember to eat well, exercise and get enough rest. Be aware of food and alcohol consumption. Maintaining a healthy body can help you feel stronger and able to cope with difficult feelings.
- Reach out to family and friends and let them know how you are feeling and what you need and allow them to support and comfort you.
The seminar is free and open to the public, but registration is recommended due to limited seating.
When: Tuesday, November 1, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Where: Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, 1000 Montauk Highway, West Islip, NY, Patio Café Conference Room
Light refreshments will be served at the event. Please call, (631) 376-4444 to reserve your seat.
