Our Lady of Consolation Named a Top-Performing Nursing Home
Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center, a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS), has been named one of New York’s Top-Performing Nursing Homes by the New York State (NYS) Department of Health. It is one of just two facilities in Suffolk County to be awarded this elite ranking, having achieved the highest quintile of the NYS Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) for the last three years.
“Earning a place in the NHQI’s top tier is a tremendous accomplishment and a tribute to both great leadership and teamwork at Our Lady of Consolation,” said CHS’s Executive Vice President and System Chief Medical Officer Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO.
The NYS NHQI is an annual quality and performance evaluation project designed to improve care for residents in Medicaid-certified nursing facilities across the state. Points are awarded for quality and performance measures, combined into an overall score for each entity and then compared against other facilities across the state. Our Lady of Consolation was ranked in the top NHQI quintile for three consecutive years: 2014, 2015 and 2016.
In addition, Our Lady of Consolation has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as among the Best Nursing Homes in the nation (2016–2017). In 2016, the West Islip facility was awarded an overall
rating of five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and, along with CHS’s St. Catherine of Siena Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center and Good Samaritan Nursing Home, also earned five stars from CMS for quality measures.
