St. Catherine Creates a Special Birthday Memory
St. Catherine of Siena Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center resident Margaret Higgins recently celebrated her 89th birthday and spent her special day with family thanks to the dedicated efforts of the staff spearheaded by St. Catherine’s Director of Social Work & Case Management Marie Viscardi.
In the days leading up to Higgins’s birthday, her daughter, Kathy Yoos, was concerned that the family would be unable to see her mother, who recently recovered from COVID-19. Yoos reached out to Viscardi, hoping to find a solution.
“I spoke with Marie, and she set up a time for us to visit with mom in the patio area of St. Catherine,” said Yoos. “She was very helpful.”
During the birthday party, the mother of five, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of two remained inside but could see and speak with her family gathered outside on the patio. They watched as she opened gifts that were dropped off previously.
“She looked great and was very happy to see us,” Yoos said. “We were able to sing happy birthday to her. It was a very emotional day and just so wonderful. Being able to spend a part of mom’s birthday with her helped all of us tremendously.”
Higgins has been a resident of St. Catherine since December of 2019, and Yoos is grateful for the quality care her mother receives.
“We know it has been a difficult time in recent months, but I told Marie that I’m so thankful for everything she and the staff at St. Catherine did on our behalf,” Yoos said. “They are all very caring and compassionate.”
