Rose Repke 100th Birthday Celebration

ROSLYN, NY, March 4, 2020– Rose Repke has made it her mission to volunteer eight hours a week at St. Francis Hospital for more than 20 years.  The retired travel agent from East Williston, who is a certified spiritual care companion, will be turning 100 and can’t think of a better place to celebrate her big day than with patients, hospital staff, and fellow volunteers.

“I consider it a blessing to be able to come here every day. Helping others keeps me going and gives me a real purpose in life,” says the Pastoral Care volunteer. “We laugh with the patients and cry with the patients to help them find comfort and consolation during some of their most difficult times in life.”

Volunteering has always been a passion for Rose. She spent 20 years at Covenant House in Manhattan working with runaway teens and 18 years at St. Aidan’s assisting teenagers. After the September 11 terrorist attacks, she went into the city to help feed and clothe many of those involved in the rescue effort.

“We have volunteers of all ages at St. Francis - some in their 80’s and 90’s - but by reaching the  age of 100, Rose has set a new milestone for our department,” says Kimberley Arlotta, Director of Volunteers. “She is an inspiration to both young and old, by always putting others first.”

Hospital volunteers celebrated with cake and flowers for their “favorite rose,” wishing her much health and happiness for becoming a centenarian after100 years of being young at heart.”
