Dental Health

The Stephen B. Gold Dental Clinic has partnered with the Suffolk County Dental Society, New York State Dental Association and American Dental Association to hold outreach events throughout the year, including:

• Give Kids a Smile Day—provides exams, cleanings and fluoride treatments to children
• Give Veterans a Smile Day—offers free dental cleanings, fillings, routine extractions and oral cancer screenings to U.S. military veterans

The clinic receives support from the Mother Cabrini Foundation, which has allowed technology upgrades and the ability to treat more patients as well as charitable care for the uninsured, underinsured, clergy and U.S. military. In the past, the clinic has received support from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation and the New York State Dental foundation.

The clinic's dental treatments are delivered by residents from St. Charles Hospital’s dental residency program. In addition to working alongside professional hygienists and dental assistants, the residents are supervised by private practice dentists who are experts in:

• Endodontics—tooth pain and root canals
• General dentistry—overall oral care, including cleanings and exams
• Oral surgery—surgery of the mouth or jaw
• Orthodontics—abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws
• Pediatric dentistry—oral health of children
• Periodontics—gums and other structures that support teeth
