Compliance Program Handbook and Code of Conduct

Catholic Health’s Compliance Program is a means to ensure that all employees and agents of Catholic Health are conducting their business activities in an ethical and legal manner.  The primary focus is to detect and prevent violations of law before they occur.  The Compliance Program Handbook and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures included in the program have been designed to preserve the integrity of Catholic Health and protect its employees and agents.

Compliance Helpline

Catholic Health depends on its governing body, employees, medical staff, contractors and volunteers to comply with Catholic Health policies as well as federal/state rules and laws.  We encourage and expect everyone to report actual or suspected violations of Catholic Health's policies and/or federal or state law.  Each report will be taken seriously and fully investigated by Compliance and other departments such as Human Resources, Privacy, Internal Audit and the Office of General Counsel, as applicable.

To report a compliance concern, please call Catholic Health's Compliance Helpline at (866) 272-0004.  The Compliance Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  You may remain anonymous and those who choose to provide their name will have their identities protected to the extent allowed by law.

The Catholic Health Whistleblower Protection, Non-Intimidation and Non-Retaliation Policy enables individuals to report without fear of intimidation or retaliation, to raise concerns regarding suspected unethical and/or illegal conduct or practices on a confidential and, if desired, anonymous basis so that Catholic Health can investigate, address and correct inappropriate conduct and actions.

Vendors

In order for Catholic Health to achieve its compliance goals, it is imperative our contractors, subcontractors and agents (collectively, vendors) also agree to abide by certain standards of conduct and comply with government regulations and requirements.  To assist vendors in assuring compliance with Catholic Health's standards of conduct, we provide training and general guidelines to which we expect all vendors to adhere.

Patient Privacy/HIPAA Rights

Catholic Health is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of private and confidential information, including your health information, and providing access to your health information in accordance with various federal and state laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).  By doing so, we also promote trust between our patients and their health care providers.

Government Oversight

The healthcare industry is highly regulated, both from a clinical and business perspective.  The United States Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the New York State Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) prevent fraud, waste and abuse within federal and state healthcare programs while promoting high quality of patient care.
