Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital Unveils its New Family Care Center

 

Today, Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital celebrated its new Family Care Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The state-of-the-art 16,000-square-foot facility will enhance patient access to its underserved populations, moving its existing 3,500-square-foot outpatient women and children clinic currently housed inside the hospital to this new outpatient setting.

The Family Care Center will occupy the first floor of the new space and will offer additional clinical services, including primary care, cardiology, endocrinology, and more. The second floor of the Family Care Center, slated for phase two of construction, will also offer expanded services that reflect the needs of the community.

“Catholic Health is committed to providing world-class health care to all those that enter our doors—and that includes the most vulnerable,” said Catholic Health President & CEO Dr. Patrick O’Shaughnessy. “Mercy’s new Family Care Center is proof positive of how serious we take our mission—and how deeply we care for every member of our community.”

The Mercy Hospital Family Care Center was supported in part by a $1.3 million grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation and $7.325 million transformation funds from the New York State Department of Health.

“The services offered at the Center have allowed Mercy to break down barriers of care for women and children and improve the health of our patients, regardless of socioeconomic background or their ability to pay. I’m very excited to be celebrating this next milestone and expanding access to care to those we serve,” said Mercy Hospital President Joseph Manopella.

Since its founding more than 100 years ago by a Sister of The Congregation of Infant Jesus, Mercy Hospital has provided the community with much-needed family care services. With about 1,000 births annually, Mercy is recognized for its leadership in care for women and their babies before, during, and after delivery.

“Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of our community have been heightened. With volume quickly outpacing the physical confinement that is our four walls, we were given the opportunity to get creative,” said Vice President of Mercy Hospital Ambulatory Services Christopher Cells. “Now, with the opening of the new Family Care Center, we are looking to further expand our scope of clinical offerings to include family medicine, as well as specialist access to cardiology and endocrinology.”
