Fr. Peter Dugandzic & Aunt Helen

CHS skilled nursing facilities benefit from being part of a large integrated health care system, Catholic Health Services. As the name implies, the commitment to our patients and their families is rooted our foundational Catholic values.

Ask the Pastor of The Church of St. Joseph in Kings Park Father Peter Dugandzic. He’s in a unique position to comment. “My aunt Helen resides at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center in Smithtown, and she and I appreciate the amount of human compassion the staff exhibits each day. There’s a very noticeable level of respect for the residents and patients, both as human beings who need care and as children of God. My aunt is very devout, and it’s comforting to know that she can receive Holy Communion and pray the rosary in an environment that understands how important that is. So beyond her medical needs, it’s very pleasing to see that her spiritual needs are supported so well.”

Residents at St. Catherine hail from various faith communities, as well as from non-religious backgrounds, and the level of care is the same for all. “First and foremost, we’re here to take care of our seniors and others who need short- or long-term nursing care,” says Chief Administrative Officer at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing & Rehabilitation Care Center John Chowske. “We are committed to respecting human dignity. That all goes back to our overall mission as a Catholic institution.”

Father Peter’s Aunt Helen lives a quiet life at St. Catherine, all her needs well-tended by a highly responsive staff. “I just need to mention this or that little concern and her nurse will be right over to see that my aunt is getting everything she needs,” he says. “The staff is truly excellent.”

St. Catherine of Siena and all the nursing homes that are part of CHS are each dedicated to that same level of excellence. As they say in their team meetings, Every patient. Every time.
