The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital.

In order to achieve voluntary NAPBC accreditation, St. Catherine demonstrated compliance with the NAPBC standards that look at a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. Breast centers seeking NAPBC accreditation undergo a site visit every three years.

“Achieving this elite designation by NAPBC is recognition of the extraordinary work of our dedicated team of experienced, compassionate breast cancer specialists including radiologists, surgeons, reconstructive plastic surgeons, nurses, and patient navigators – all of whom work together to ensure the best outcomes for our breast cancer patients,” said Jim O’Connor, President, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital. “Our program meets — and often exceeds — national standards for performance, quality and safety, offering residents in our community access to outstanding breast care services close to home.”

St Catherine’s performs more than 8,000 breast imaging studies a year, offering the latest in mammography including 3D breast mammography and breast MRI. When biopsy is needed, our interventional radiologist is highly skilled in performing stereotactic biopsy and needle localization biopsies. The surgical team offers the latest advances in surgical options including breast conservation techniques, minimally invasive surgeries, and the only Hidden Scar Surgery designated surgeon in Suffolk County. To oversee each patient’s care is a caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable patient navigator who works closely to ensure all needs are met.

As a NAPBC-accredited center, St. Catherine of Siena is committed to maintaining levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care resulting in high-quality care for patients with breast disease. Patients receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient centered services including psycho-social support, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivor’s quality of life.
