Nurses with Heart

ROSLYN, NY, September 17, 2020  – St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center has once again received one of the most coveted and prestigious honors a hospital and its nurses can achieve – the Magnet designation for excellence in nursing care. This recognition is the result of a rigorous evaluation that included extensive interviews and reviews of nursing services, clinical outcomes, and patient care and satisfaction. It marks the fourth time in a row that the Hospital has received this highly regarded nationwide recognition.

Only about eight percent of hospitals in the U.S. have earned the Magnet™ designation. St. Francis has been a Magnet ™ Hospital since 2006. It is one of only six hospitals on Long Island to hold this national distinction and the only one in Nassau County to be designated four times.

“To achieve this honor for the fourth time is a true testament to the excellence of our nursing staff,” said Charles L. Lucore, M.D., MBA, President of St. Francis. “It is one of the key reasons why we have been recognized as the safest hospital on Long Island by the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) and Leapfrog, in addition to be rated as one of the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.”

The Magnet™ program was created and is administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). It recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing philosophy and practice, adhere to national standards for improving patient care, have an active research program, and display leadership and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity.

“We are extremely proud to have once again earned this prestigious national recognition for nursing. It is the ultimate credential for high quality nursing care,” said Ann Cella, M.A., M.Ed, R.N., NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer. “This top designation, joins a long list of national nursing accolades we have consistently received, including the most Beacon and Prism Awards in New York State.”

The ANCC is a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association and is the largest and most prominent nursing credentialing organization in the United States. St. Francis Hospital’s Magnet designation is valid for four years with ongoing review.
