The Emergency Department at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY, provides 24-hour, seven days a week emergency care for Long Islanders who are experiencing serious to critical medical issues and need immediate care.

Emergency Services

Our highly experienced and compassionate team includes board-certified emergency medicine physicians, registered nurses, radiologists and additional support staff who treat a range of injuries and conditions, including:

  • Heart attack
  • Head injuries
  • Orthopedic injuries
  • Pediatric injuries
  • Respiratory distress
  • Stroke

Features of our emergency department include a specialized orthopedic treatment room and a negative pressure room to isolate patients with communicable illnesses.

Primary Stroke Center

St. Charles Hospital is a New York State Department of Health-designated Primary Stroke Center and certified by the New York State Joint Commission. The hospital has received the 2022 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Geriatrics 

St. Charles Hospital has earned Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA), providing elderly patients who visit our emergency department with the necessary expertise, equipment and resources to deliver optimal care.

Obstetrical Emergency Room

A board-certified obstetrician is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Upon arrival to the Emergency Department, patients are assessed and triaged to the Obstetrical Emergency Room. This allows for quicker assessment and management.
