West Hempstead resident Larry Doyle, 87, had a mantra as he practiced dancing for his granddaughter's wedding: "Practice makes perfect."

Meghan Von Elm, 29, asked her grandfather Larry if he would honor her with a dance when she got married in May 2022. Larry, of course, agreed and immediately thought he needed to make the dance perfect.

Last summer, Larry tripped on cobblestone and broke his nose. Since then he has been going to Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre for weekly outpatient physical therapy. For the weeks leading up to the wedding, Larry and his physical therapist practiced dancing to improve his balance and gain strength in his legs.

“Dancing with my granddaughter will be very sentimental and I want our dance to be memorable, and not because I’ve fallen. While I’m not thankful for my injury, I am thankful to the PT team at Mercy for helping me get my balance and strength back, and for giving me an opportunity to practice for a milestone moment in my life,” said Larry.
